Mennonite World Conference assemblies happen every 6-7 years in varying locations around the globe. The “family reunion” is a time of celebration and sharing between many Mennonite, Brethren in Christ, and other Anabaptist-related churches.

“Come together in the Way of Jesus Christ”

The fifteenth Mennonite World Conference Assembly will be held July 14-19, 2009, in Asunción, Paraguay and will be centered around the theme, “Come together in the Way of Jesus Christ,” based on Philippians 2:1-11. The gathering will have many parts - Assembly Gathered, Assembly Scattered, the Global Youth Summit, the Global Church Village, meetings of the MWC General Council and MWC Commissions, as well as a variety of other activities.

The daily activities of Assembly Gathered will be held in the Centro Familiar de Adoración, a Pentecostal facility built to accommodate 10,000 persons. Each day will include worship, songs from around the world, prayer, Bible study, eating together, playing and visiting. Assembly Scattered will provide opportunity for persons going to and returning from Assembly Gathered to be hosted by church communities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Service: Live the Difference”

The second Global Youth Summit will take place just prior to the main assembly, from July 10-12 and will be focused on the theme of service. The summit will be a time for youth and young adults to worship together, to talk about their vision, concerns, and commitment to the church, and to build relationships. Some of those attending the youth summit will be delegate representatives of their respective church conferences, though many more will participate.

See MWC’s website for more information about either the GYS or the global Assembly in general.
